Programs to help you become a Prison Warden
The managers and administrators of correctional facilities are known as prison wardens. It is a very demanding career that combines administration with law enforcement and requires you to switch hats very often. First and foremost to be considered for a position as a prison warden you must meet the educational requirements. Take the time to earn a degree in at least one of the following fields:
- Criminology
- Criminal Justice
- Administration
Supplement your degree with fields of study that include:
- Business administration
- Law enforcement
- Business
These fields will give you extra educational weight when you go through the application process and are extremely helpful. Take a look at some of the accredited schools below to start your degree.
Since you will be working in a correctional system it would also be beneficial for you to have some law enforcement experience. Keep in mind that most prison wardens have worked their way up from being a correctional officer or police officer and several have management experience and supervisory skills from prior positions in their career. These skills combine to make an excellent candidate for hire so make sure to start in law enforcement at any level (again try to have some management experience prior to this) once you are ready.
