It seems unlikely that any single page can keep track of appropriate links for all countries of the world. Below is a very good attempt, I think, but you should also check the following sites:
  • Crime & Society: A Comparative Criminology Tour of the World Provides information on crime and the justice system in most countries of the world.
  • Internet Resource Links for Comparative Criminology Comprehensive listing of web sites with information linked to crime and the justice system in countries around the world.
  • Encyclopedia of the Nations Detailed nation profiles are categorized by continent and alphabetically arranged and consist of information about each country such as the population, history, ethnic groups, culture, language, transportation, government structure, and judicial system.
  • European Police and Judicial Systems Interpol provides general information about the police and judicial systems of individual countries in the European region.
  • National Criminal Justice Profiles Heuni's National Criminal Justice Profile Series contains information on the criminal justice systems of various countries in Europe and North America.
  • Lawfinder: World Resources Access to legal information on more than 200 countries.
  • National Crime Rates Compared. "Cross-National Studies in Crime and Justice" (300 pp.) (NCJ 200988) summarizes the results from a study that documents crime and criminal punishment trends from 1981 to 1999 in eight countries: Australia, Canada, England, the Netherlands, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States.
  • Legal Aid Programs Check the Equal Justice Library for information about legal aid in countries around the world.
  • The Federation of American Scientists provides a listing of World Intelligence and Security Agencies. Click on a country and find links to the country's agencies.
  • Criminal Justice Links Annotated from the World Criminal Justice Library Network
  • Economist - Country Briefings are heavy on monetary aspects but also provides good current information on politics.
  • Global Resources reviews the International Collection from the Library of Congress. For many areas of the world, such as China, Russia, and Latin America, the Library's collections are the finest and most comprehensive research collections outside the country of origin.
  • Governments on the WWW Nicely organized by region (e.g., African governments) and topic (e.g., Law Courts)
  • Governments on the WWW: Law Courts This is a remarkably complete listing of courts at several level in most every country
  • NIJ International Center: Global Links has links to government offices for many countries.
  • World Factbook of Criminal Justice Systems This factbook provides narrative descriptions of the criminal justice systems of countries around the world. These 42 country descriptions are written to a common template so that comparisons of similar functions in different countries can be easily made. They were completed in mid-1993, although the most recent data available for inclusion were sometimes for a year or two earlier.
  • Yahoo! Index of Governments by Country Hyperlinks to more than 100 countries

Australia

  • Compare crime rates with seven other countries.
  • Researching Australian Law / Nicholas Pengelley. Another great resource from LLRX (Law Library Resource Exchange)
  • Australasian Legal Institute: Primary and secondary Australian legal materials.
  • Australian Institute of Criminology The Institute is the national focus for the study of crime and criminal justice in Australia and for the dissemination of criminal justice information
  • Australian Treaties Library: Includes full-text of bilateral and multilateral treaties to which Australia is a party dating back to 1931.
  • Banished to Botany Bay: Examines Australia's origins as a convict colony. The site features informational pages covering the decision to found the colony; the make-up of the convicts; convict labour, discipline, and resistance; relations with the native Aboriginal population; female convicts; pictorial representations of the colony; a map of New South Wales; a bibliography; and more
  • Crime Research Centre (Western Australia): The Centre publishes annual crime and justice statistics which have significantly enhanced understanding of the extent of the crime problem in the State and trends in criminal justice.
  • High Court of Australia: Full-text judgments within 24 hours and general information about the court.
  • Teaching Heritage  Not much specifically on Australian justice, but there is an impressive collection of information and resources on Australian history and culture. This would be good for background material in a term paper.

Austria

  • Republik Österreich Bundeskanzleramt: German language site providing links to federal as well as länder law and full-text case law from the constitutional and administrative courts. Search manual (in German only) should be consulted as searching by article and paragraph number can be tricky. Access to page of information in English.
  • Austrian National Police
