There are no set prerequisites to become a paralegal or legal assistant, because most are hired right out of college with little or no experience, but the basic rule of thumb is: the more you know about law the better.  Legal studies degrees help you along the way and are the best way to start a paralegal career. There are some programs and schools that offer a degree in paralegal studies that provides a firm set of groundwork for a firm to hire you.  Since a legal assistant is recommended to have a fairly good knowledge of law, be sure to specialize in a certain type.  Some are listed below.
