Crime Scene Technician Career Opportunities

A Crime Scene Technicians is responsible for looking for, photographing, carefully collecting and analyzing evidence from a crime scene. There are, however, many jobs and areas of specialization that branch out from this.  Crime scene technicians can process body fluids and hair, examine weapons, take photographs, interview witnesses, conduct research, collaborate with medical examiners and assist police officers.  Here are some jobs that may interest you to follow up on.

  • Trace analyst - responsible for thoroughly analyzing the material evidence collected to find out such information as what substance it is, where it came from, and what it's made of.
  • Forensic photographer A forensic photographer deals mainly with taking studied photographs of the crime scene and the evidence found there
  • DNA analyst provides the DNA results and this evidence holds lots of weight for testimony in court.
  • Crime scene examiner - examines the actual scene of the crime, collects relevant evidence, interviews witnesses and suspects
  • Toxicologist -  Responsible for examining toxic substances within a specimen
